Approximately one-third of enterprise computer users write down their passwords, according to a survey conducted by Nucleus Research. Of these users, about one-third write it on paper. The other two-thirds store passwords as text files on the computer.
The 325 survey respondents also indicated that password length or complexity does not correlate with insecure password behavior (i.e., writing down the password). The survey revealed the following about password requirements across organizations:
- 54% of respondents said their organizations require passwords that include both letters and numbers
- 23% of respondents said their organization does not require them to change passwords periodically
- 46% of respondents use four or more passwords
