A laptop computer recently stolen from Washington-based Compass Health contains PHI, the mental health provider announced. Compass Health discovered the security breach on June 28, 2006, and alerted police immediately.

Information stored on the computer includes Social Security numbers and clinical and demographic data. There is no indication that the information has been used for identity theft, according to Compass Health. The provider also announced that it was "implementing additional security measures to prevent similar events in the future," although it did not specify what these measures would be.

Compass Health has sent notification letters to patients affected by the theft.
