HIMSS, Internet2 partnership to develop secure health information network

Developing a secure, reliable, and advanced health information network is the aim of a new partnership between the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and Internet2, a research and development consortium led by institutions such as Harvard and New York University.

The partnership has established four working groups to explore the requirements and capabilities needed to create an advanced medical network during the next year. Working group topics include the following:

  • Identity management
  • Privacy and security
  • Biomedical (health sciences and healthcare) education
  • Telehealth
