OCR offers emergency planning disclosure resource

A covered entity may disclose the minimum necessary PHI to a protected health authority for the purpose of preventing or controlling disease, injury, or disability in the course of emergency planning, according to a new decision tool on the OCR's Web site.
The tool will help healthcare facilities make appropriate disclosures to other providers and public health agencies during emergency planning activities by determining whether the privacy rule allows certain disclosures with or without authorization.
