The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the Association for Electronic Health Care Transactions (AFEHCT) merged May 31 to become the HIMSS AFEHCT Business Information Systems Initiative.
The group will be governed by the HIMSS board and AFEHCT volunteer leadership. The Washington-based AFEHCT has 15 corporate members and 17 individual members, and the Chicago-based HIMSS has 275 corporate members and 17,000 individual members.
"Now, we have the strengths of both organizations combined to advance the best use of information and management systems on both the clinical and administrative sides for the betterment of healthcare," AFEHCT Board Chairwoman Sheila Schweitzer said.
