CMS introduced revised CMS 855 Medicare provider enrollment applications on May 1. The applications-used by initial enrollees and existing enrollees making changes to their enrollment information-must include an NPI and a copy of the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) NPI notification.
According to CMS, it cannot approve initial applications or update existing enrollment information without this NPI information. CMS requires all healthcare providers and suppliers who bill Medicare to obtain their NPI in advance of enrolling in or changing their Medicare enrollment data.
Contact your Medicare contractor or click here for more information about the revised provider enrollment process.
