Florida authorities are investigating a Blue Cross Blue Shield Florida contractor after he transferred corporate data on approximately 27,000 people to his personal computer, reports the Orlando Business Journal.
The payer's computer controls helped employees identify the incident. The improper transfer compromised the identities of current and former Blue Cross employees, contractors, and vendors, providing the suspect with names and Social Security numbers, a Blue Cross spokesperson told the Journal.
Blue Cross notified the victims and offered a year of free credit reporting services. The incident did not threaten any Blue Cross customer data or PHI.
