Winston Wilkinson replaced Richard M. Campanelli as the director of the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), according to a recent press release by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Wilkinson was an OCR deputy director from 1988 to 1990, and returns to HHS after running Winston Wilkinson & Associates, a business consulting firm. Prior to that, he held senior positions at the Department of Education and served as an elected member of the Salt Lake [UT] County Council.
Campanelli, OCR's director since 2002, will become counselor for human services policy, a position he has acted in since early 2005. He will advise HHS on issues relating to children, families, seniors, people with disabilities, civil rights, privacy, and faith and community-based activities.
