A former Adventist Health System nurse claims to have easily obtained over 1,000 Web site passwords issued by the California Office of Self Insured Plans. Barbara Clark, RN, NP, says that copies of an e-mail message and password list were easy to find in a public parking lot.

The passwords enable users to access pre-filled annual report forms for organizations such as Tyco International, Chevron Texaco Corporation, Kraft Foods, Union Pacific Railroad, and the Salvation Army. Clark said she hopes that the attention generated by this data breach will move state authorities to act on a separate lawsuit she filed against state regulators of self-insured plans.
