Members of Minnesota's Legislative Audit Commission testified to the state legislature that the state lacks adequate controls on computers that contain tax, medical, and payroll records, The StarTribune reports.

The state is not adequately securing some of its most important computers and will not have the security it needs by simply plugging holes, commission member James Nobles said.

The commission pointed to a variety of problems, including the failure to frequently change passwords. The state neglected to change passwords for two computer accounts since 1982.
