Most Americans support electronic health records (EHRs) as long as they are secure and private, reports Reuters.

According to a Markle Foundation poll of 800 adults nationwide,

  • 72% favor EHR
  • approximately 70% feel employers should not have access to an EHR
  • almost 70% would use an EHR to check for mistakes and to verify prescriptions
  • approximately 60% would use an EHR to get test results and e-mail their doctors

"We have everything else on the internet except our health information . . . Most patients don't know what is in their records, and they don't have the ability to make their record available to other providers," said Markle Foundation President Zoe Baird.
