Children’s records stolen from CA treatment center

Sensitive patient information was stolen from the Children's Health Council (CHC), a Palo Alto, CA-based treatment center for emotionally and developmentally challenged children, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

The information consists of birth dates and Social Security numbers, as well as diagnostic and financial information. The theft affected about 5,000 patients. Payroll information for approximately 700 current and former CHC employees was also stolen, the Mercury News reports.

Palo Alto police are currently investigating the theft.
