Those looking for HHS' Office of HIPAA Standards (OHS) will have a hard time finding it. The OHS, which is an office within CMS and is responsible for enforcing HIPAA's transactions and code sets rule, changed its name earlier this month to the Office of E-Health Standards and Services (OESS).

The office was renamed to better reflect the expanded responsibilities of coordinating and supporting the CMS internal and external e-health activities. For purposes of HIPAA enforcement, OESS operates independently from CMS and is detached from CMS' Medicare and Medicaid related activities.
