Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C.-the national law firm taking the first Vioxx lawsuit to trial in May-requested the judge in the case remove the order prohibiting the release of protected information about the drug, according to PR Web Direct.

If granted, the motion would lift the protective orders currently in effect for all documents, depositions, and other evidence pertaining to the drug.

According to the motion, Merck violated the provisions of the protective orders and the requirements of HIPAA by disclosing personal medical information about a patient who took Vioxx.

"I believe that the public is now entitled to hear the rest of the story about the drug," said Jere Beasley, founding partner of the law firm. "Fair play and a need for the public disclosure concerning this drug would be served by removing all protective orders and confidentiality concerning Vioxx."
