At the recent HIMSS annual conference, Dr. Carolyn Clancy, Agency for Health Quality and Research Administrator, warned providers that patients today are information technology (IT) savvy and expect results from their healthcare professionals, according to a HIMSS press release.
She suggested a focus on patient safety, quality, and security of information, remarking that the "H" in HIT represents healthy outcomes and should be the reason to bring IT to healthcare.
Ned McCulloch, HIMSS advocacy and public policy steering committee member, also commented on the HIT landscape, noting that the tight government budget in 2005 will increase the importance of public support of HIT initiatives.
