Thirty-eight percent of healthcare executives say the slow adoption of information technology (IT) such as electronic health records could seriously threaten the healthcare industry, according to a survey by Harris Interactive for the IT firm Capgemini. Rising healthcare costs and uninsured patients also ranked high, with 37% and 34% respectively citing these as areas of concern.

Despite the potential savings of clinical IT systems such as e-prescribing and bedside decision-support tools, most survey respondents said they didn't have the funding for this technology. However, 68% have increased or accelerated their IT investments.
