The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC), a group that accredits entities that send or receive HIPAA-regulated transactions, released new draft guidelines Friday on healthcare network registry criteria for small entities such as medical billing companies and small regional clearinghouses.

Small providers can use the criteria to "measure themselves against a core set of the industry's most recognized standards for healthcare networks best practices," according to an EHNAC press release. The program criteria will rely on a core subset of EHNAC's clearinghouse industry criteria.

Providers can comment on the new criteria for 60 days. Go to EHNAC's Web site for more information, to read the criteria, or to submit comments.
