Responding to a request for information from David Brailer, national coordinator of health information technology at HHS, the North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communication Alliance (NCHICA) created a task force to study the potential benefits and pitfalls of a national health information network.

NCHICA, an alliance of more than 250 healthcare providers, vendors, and public health organizations, plans to offer Brailer a written statement on the topic. Suggestions will likely focus on the process improvements of a national health information network rather than specific details of a network model.

The organization hopes its suggestions will push the federal government away from a costly solution that deters widespread adoption of standards, according to an NCHICA statement.
