The Healthcare Security Workgroup-comprised of representatives from URAC, WEDI, and NIST-plan to release guidelines this month to help organizations comply with the security data requirements of HIPAA, according to ComputerWorld.
The guidelines, originally set for release the middle of this year, took much longer than expected due to the complexity of the HIPAA security rule. "It has taken a lot of lifting. It was ambitious, but the group has finally been able to put it together," Devin Jopp, COO of URAC, told ComputerWorld.
The Workgroup says the guidelines are meant to ease the process of complying with HIPAA security by helping providers gain a better understanding of the steps necessary to comply. The guidelines could particularly help smaller organizations struggling to understand the regulations.
