Industry group offers 12 cyber security steps for Bush’s second term

The Cyber Security Industry Alliance (CSIA) called on the Bush administration to strengthen the cyber infrastructure and protect end users from cyber attacks. CSIA suggested 12 recommendations including dedicating an assistant secretary position in the Department of Homeland Security and encouraging information security governance in the private sector.

Other suggestions include the following:

  • Lead by example with federal policies
  • Close gaps between government and private IT efforts
  • Establish and test an emergency network
  • Assign a federal agency to track the costs of cyber attacks
  • Increase funding for research on cyber security
  • Strengthen the federal security certification process
  • Create a task force to develop actions that will secure digital controls systems
