Patients report outstanding experiences at hospitals that work quickly and efficiently and whose staff treat them with dignity and respect their privacy, according to the JD Power and Associates 2004 National Hospital Service Performance Study.

Other factors such as emotional support, information and communication, and comfort all play a role in satisfaction, but patients find dignity and respect the most important factor.

Fifty percent of the 2,400 survey respondents reported they were "delighted" with the staff's respect for their privacy. Sixty-five percent of respondents said they would return to the hospital where they were most recently a patient and 59% said they would recommend their hospital to others.
