The final HIPAA security rule compliance date is April 20, 2005, not April 21, 2005 as many healthcare providers originally believed, according to a CMS clarification. The final security rule contained both dates, reported Health Data Management.
Also, CMS has scheduled its next two HIPAA implementation roundtables, one for November 10 and the other for December 15. The November call will focus on the security standards; the December call will address standards for a national provider identifier. To participate in the call, dial 877/203-0044. Go to the CMS Web site for more information.
