The newly formed HIPAA Transactions Convergence Project-comprised of industry groups such as the National Uniform Billing Committee, the National Uniform Claim Committee, and transaction validation vendor Claredi-plans to create a common set of HIPAA transaction requirements to minimize the need for and reduce the burden of companion documents, according to a Claredi press release.

The group aims to do the following, reports Health Data Management:

  • Collect and publish requirement lists from payers, for easier comparison of this information
  • Help standards-setting organizations select data elements for a common set of requirements
  • Assist providers in determining which payers receive what data

Providers can access for free the lists of payers' requirements on the Claredi Web site. Industry providers who wish to participate in the project can do so at no cost.
