The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI) Thursday released white papers on risk analysis, employer issues, and small practice security implementation to help healthcare providers, payers, and clearinghouses comply with the HIPAA security rule.
The risk analysis white paper offers options covered entities can adopt to conduct their assessment of potential risks and vulnerabilities of confidential patient information, according to a WEDI press release. Topics covered in the employer white paper include the role of the employer with respect to employee health information, employer relationships with insurance companies, and employee-sponsored ERISA plans. The third white paper addresses how small physician practices can comply with the rule, touching on circumstances specific to this group of providers.
The Security and Privacy Workgroup of WEDI's Strategic National Implementation Process developed these white papers. Go to the WEDI Web site for more information.
