The Cyber Security Industry Alliance (CSIA) published 10 recommendations to ensure the creation of a secure national electronic healthcare system, according to a CSIA press release. The recommendations focus on protecting patient information from unauthorized disclosure and ensuring protection of critical information systems.
Some of the recommendations include the following:
- Deploying strong authentication and authorization controls
- Encrypting data wherever appropriate
- Properly discarding old data
- Validating the integrity of information that comes from the Web
- Developing a rapid incident-response mechanism
- Supporting and using information-sharing networks
The public advocacy group, which consists of security software, hardware, and service vendors, believes organizations should use its recommendations and address privacy of information and security controls from the beginning of the planning process. Go to CSIA's Web site to read the full report.
