Police union files law suit against use of trooper medical records

A police union recently filed a law suit that challenges a policy requiring New York state troopers to sign away their privacy rights to police officials if they wish to remain on the force, reports the Times Union of Albany, New York, May 20.

The leaders of the Police Benevolent Association believe that requiring access to medical records-including mental health records-will prevent police from openly discussing their care with providers out of fear that they will be relieved of duty, reports the Times Union.
