President Bush announced his intentions to upgrade most Americans' medical records to electronic format in the next 10 years, and promised voluntary enrollment for the sake of privacy, reported the Associated Press (AP) on April 27.

Bush said his proposed initiative would set technical standards for the switch from paper to electronic records by the end of this year, and would bring America's medical-record keeping practices out of the "buggy era," according to the AP.
