In honor of HIPAA's first birthday the American Health Information Management Association released the results of a survey on privacy compliance. 68% of all respondents say their organizations are between 85%-99% compliant with the regulations, and only 8% fall below the 50% mark for compliance.
70% say that HIPAA helped them find existing business practices that compromise patient privacy. The survey also revealed that some university health officials report difficulty determining whether their records fall under HIPAA or the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Acts.
