The American Hospital Association (AHA) endorsed software from Computer Associates International (CA), a large software company beleaguered by accounting scandals, to aid hospitals with HIPAA compliance, CA said in a written release February 25.
The AHA recommends CA software for HIPAA because of the company's strong background in security and storage-management solutions for the healthcare industry, CA says. But the software behemoth has been the subject of criminal investigations by the Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Wall Street Journal reported April 1.
In October, CA's chief financial officer (CFO) resigned amid allegations he improperly accounting practices. One of the CFO's subordinates was charged with obstruction of justice and was also forced to resign.
