New white paper lists standards, tools, and more for privacy and security
It may not be an all-inclusive guide to the documents that can help you comply with the privacy and security rules, but a new white paper from a trio of public and private organizations comes pretty close. Since their inception in late 2002, the three organizations in the Health Care Security Workgroup have published documents on meeting the privacy rule's safeguard requirements, how to perform a risk analysis, and numerous other topics. The white paper also outlines a work plan that calls for the group to determine whether existing security measures would satisfy HIPAA requirements.
In addition, the white paper includes related documents from other organizations. These outside publications include a proposed standard method for providers to assess their security compliance and a similar tool for Medicare contractors.
The three organizations in the workgroup are the National Institutes for Standards and Technology, the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange, and the accreditor known as URAC.
