The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) has made thumbing through the HIPAA regulations a little easier. It posted an unofficial version of a 55-page document September 12 that combines HIPAA's privacy, security, and enforcement rules.
OCR also recently posted an answer to the following frequently asked question (FAQ):
Covered entities must update notices when there are changes to more stringent state laws, according to the FAQ. But having a separate section in the notice for state laws will make the information easier to read and understand, help the covered entity keep the information current and accurate, and make it easier to distribute the revised notice when material changes occur, says OCR.
Go to http://www.hipaapro.com/news/hipaa_downloads.cfm to download a PDF of the combined regulations and go to http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/ and look under "What's New in Privacy" to read the FAQ.
