Almost one quarter of providers still out of compliance, survey shows

Twenty-three percent of providers remained noncompliant with the privacy rule three months after the April 14 compliance date, according to a recent survey conducted by Phoenix Health Systems and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
Other results from the survey include the following:
Phoenix Health Systems and HIMSS conducted the "Summer 2003 US Healthcare Industry Quarterly HIPAA Compliance Survey" during the first two weeks of July and received 571 responses. Providers accounted for 71% of the responses, while others included clearinghouses, payers, and vendors.
