The Health Privacy Project last month released "Myths and Facts about the HIPAA Privacy Rule," a document listing common myths about the privacy rule and what the rule actually says.

"Although health care organizations had more than 24 months to implement the privacy rule, much confusion and misunderstanding persists," the group said. "Without doubt, there may be some real barriers and glitches in the law, but at this stage it is important to clear up the glaring misconceptions."

The Georgetown University group also released a list of Web sites of federal agencies and professional and trade associations that offer guidance on the privacy rule. Both resources are posted on the group's Web site.
