Forty-seven percent of organizations have already conducted a security risk analysis, according to the recent "HIPAA Weekly Advisor Reader Survey."
Other results of the survey include the following:
- 57% of respondents said it would be "somewhat burdensome" to comply with the security rule
- 19% said they would comply with all of the security rule requirements by the April 14, 2003, privacy rule compliance date
- 39% said they conducted security self assessments along with their privacy self-assessments and are either finished or nearly finished
- 44% said they have conducted some security awareness training
The survey was sent electronically March 17 to subscribers of "HIPAA Weekly Advisor," and 729 people responded. Of those respondents, 24% were compliance officers, 23% were health information management professionals, and 12% were administrators. Others included IT professionals, office managers, and consultants.
Almost half of respondents worked at either hospitals (32%) or hospital systems (14%). Other settings included physician practices, long-term care facilities, and home health agencies.
