Updates for 2015–2017 to the EHR Incentive Program caused some providers to questions whether they’d be able to meet the new requirements in time for the next reporting period. In response, CMS has updated its FAQ database to address these concerns. (The CMS final rule on EHR Incentive Program Stage 3, including updates to meaningful use, can be read here.)
Among the changes is a 90-day reporting period for first-time participants and providers who implement Stage 3 in 2017. Alternate exclusions will remain in 2016 for Stage 1 providers, CMS says. The modifications for 2015–2017 include 10 core objectives for eligible professionals with one consolidated public health reporting objective. Providers may continue to use technology certified for the 2014 Edition for EHR reporting until they transition to the 2015 Edition certified technology. This will be required for EHR reporting in 2018.
