Pay-per-view: Review ICD-10-CM coding for common cardiac conditions

Heart disease is the most common cause of death for both men and women in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The most common type is coronary artery disease (CAD), which can lead to heart attacks, heart failure, angina, and arrhythmias, according to the CDC.
 
In addition to reviewing the anatomy of the heart, coders will need to review the terminology for these conditions in order to report the most specific ICD-10-CM code, says Betty Hovey, CPC, COC, CPB, CPMA, CPC-I, CPCD, director of ICD-10 development and training for AAPC in Chicago.
