CMS implemented two new CPT® Category III codes originally introduced by the AMA in January:
  • 0392T, laparoscopy, surgical, esophageal sphincter augmentation procedure, placement of sphincter augmentation device (i.e., magnetic band)
  • 0393T, removal of esophageal sphincter augmentation device

Code 0392T is assigned status indicator T (significant procedure subject to multiple procedure discounting) and APC 0174 (level IV laparoscopy). Code 0392T is assigned status indicator Q2 (T-packaged codes) and APC 0130 (level I laparoscopy). Both codes have an effective date of July 1.

Code 0392T replaces HCPCS code C9737 (laparoscopy, surgical, esophageal sphincter augmentation with device, which was introduced in January 2014 and deleted effective June 30.
