Q: We are have a debate about reporting sinus stents. Specific HCPCS C codes represent non-coronary stents, but we are unsure if we should be reporting a C code for the sinus stents. They are called Propel™ stents.
A: There are specific C codes for coronary stents, but there are also C codes for non-coronary stents. Propel stents are drug-eluting stents that deliver steroids directly to the sinus mucosa. They meet the definition for C2625 (stent, non-coronary, temporary, with delivery system), so this would be the appropriate code for reporting the Propel stent. CMS has validated this in Transmittal 3217.
