Medicare increasingly ties its reimbursement for hospital care to the quality of the care provided. One such element—the Patient Safety Indicator (PSI)—could severely affect reimbursement under value-based purchasing. But what if the PSIs your facility reports aren’t actual PSIs, but documentation and coding disconnects? CDI programs can help.
During this 90-minute program, Mary McGrady, MSN, RN and Murali Nagarajan MB, BS, CCS explain how their teams’ efforts expanded the scope of the CDI program and improved the accuracy of its PSI capture rates.
At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Identify strategies for CDI to recognize potential PSIs during concurrent review
- Explain the concepts of inclusion and exclusion criteria for PSIs
- Develop tactics on how to write queries related to PSI clarification
- Discuss how to proactively communicate to AHRQ regarding concerns with PSI technical specifications in light of ICD-10 implementation
