Q: Are there any new HCPCs codes for procedures beginning October 1?
A: CMS added new HCPCS procedure code C9741 (right heart catheterization with implantation of wireless pressure sensor in the pulmonary artery, including any type of measurement, angiography, imaging supervision, interpretation and report, includes provision of patient home electronics unit)according to Transmittal 3012.
In this procedure, the physician implants a wireless communication system in the proximal right pulmonary artery behind the ascending aorta during a right heart catheterization procedure. A pulmonary angiogram is performed to assess the optimal implant site, then the implant is delivered via the sheath in a similar manner as a self-expandable stent is deployed. The implant communicates the pulmonary artery pressures to the analysis unit that is outside the body.
C9741 is assigned status indicator T (significant procedure subject to multiple procedure discounting) and APC 0319 with a national unadjusted payment rate of $15,509.99.
