The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) recently updated its ICD-10 PlayBook to help organizations revamp their ICD-10 planning strategies in light of the recent delay in implementing the new code set, according to an announcement on the HIMSS website. The ICD-10 PlayBook serves as a centralized location for ICD-10 implementation and best practice resources for hospitals, ambulatory centers, practitioners, and staff members.
Members of the ICD-10 Task Force updated two ICD-10 PlayBook tools (ICD-10 Cost Prediction Model and the ICD-10 Financial Risk Calculator) and repackaged them as the ICD-10 Financial Tool Suite. This revised tool is designed to help providers plan new budgets based on a new ICD-10 implementation date tof October 1, 2015, according to the announcement.
The ICD-10 Cost Prediction Model may help organizations budget for coding, revenue cycle, project management, and IT costs. It is also designed to predict the financial impact the transition may have on an organization based on information a user enters into the model, according to HIMSS.
The ICD-10 Cost Prediction Model is a self-assessment that provides organizations with the opportunity to determine their ICD-10 financial risk based on responses to a 10–15 minute survey. Questions presented are based on organization type. The model also identifies steps an organization can take to mitigate risks related to ICD-10 based on survey responses, according to HIMSS.
