CMS accepted 89% of test claims submitted overall during its March ICD-10 testing week and some regions reported acceptance rates of 99%, according to a blog post by the acting director of CMS’ Offices of Enterprise Management.

Participants submitted more than 127,000 claims with ICD-10 codes to be tested with the Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) claims system. Approximately 2,600 participating providers, suppliers, billing companies, and clearinghouses participated in this testing. This group represented 5% of overall organizations that submit claims. Clearinghouses submitting claims of behalf of providers submitted the highest number of test claims (50%). CMS also received test claims from:
  • Large and small physician practices and hospitals
  • Labs
  • Ambulatory surgical centers
  • Dialysis facilities
  • Home health providers
  • Ambulance providers.

On average, CMS accepts 95–98% of all Medicare FFS claims. Testing did not identify issues with the ability of the Medicare FFS claims system to process ICD-10 claims, according to CMS.

CMS will be release information about 2015 end-to-end ICD-10 testing later this year.
