Pay-per-view: Parenthetical note changes dominate 2014 CPT updates

Although the AMA changed hundreds of codes in the 2014 CPT® Manual, most of the changes took place in the surrounding text.
 
“This was the year of [updated] parenthetical notes and guidelines,” said Denise Williams, RN, CPC-H, senior vice president for Health Revenue Assurance Associates (HRAA), Inc., in Plantation, Fla. Williams spoke during the recent HCPro webcast “2014 CPT Code Changes Explained.”
 
Some sections, including anesthesia (00100–01999) and the endocrine system (60000–60699), saw no changes at all, but coding staff will have to carefully parse other sections to note the updates.
