Sepsis. Ureosepsis. Severe Sepsis. Systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). Bacteremia. Septicemia.

Each of these words carries its own definition, its own clinical indicators, and requires specific documentation to be coded properly. Even after years of advice from Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM and ICD-9-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, many still struggle to develop appropriate clinical indicators for their facilities and to determine when (and how) to appropriately query their physicians.

Gloryanne Bryant, BS, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CDIP, CCDS, AHIMA-Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, joins Robert S. Gold, MD, CEO of DCBA, Inc., in Atlanta, Ga., for a special audio conference at 1 p.m. (Eastern) Thursday, July 25, to review the clinical criteria and documentation and coding guidelines. They will also provide sample queries and discuss how documentation needs will change after ICD-10-CM implementation.

To register for the audio conference, visit the “Sepsis Coding: Clinical Updates and Communication Strategies,” webpage.
