CMS Transmittal 1199 updates the national coverage determination (NCD) hard-coded shared system edits to include ICD-10-CM codes.

CMS included 30 spreadsheets with the transmittal. The spreadsheets indicate affected ICD-9 codes and their corresponding ICD-10 codes as they relate to their respective NCDs, in addition to the rest of the coding infrastructure specific to each NCD.

Each spreadsheet contains the following information:
•    NCD Number/Title
•    Internet-Only Manual (IOM) searchable link related to the NCD
•    Medicare Coverage Database (MCD) searchable link related to the NCD

CMS plans to translate approximately 40% of the roughly 330 current NCDs from ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM.

Transmittal 1199 is the second of three “omnibus” transmittals with the NCD translations. CMS released the first, Transmittal R1122OTN, September 14, 2012. The final release will be sometime later in 2013.
You can review the transmittal and related MLN Matters article on the CMS website.
