It’s 2012, and that means it’s time to make some resolutions to kick off the new year. “This next year is really going to be tough with everything else going on in the healthcare arena,” says Dena Boggan, CPC, CMC, CCP, HIPAA privacy and security officer at St. Dominic Jackson (MS) Memorial Hospital.

One officer’s resolution might strike a chord with many people. Brandon Ho, CIPP, HIPAA compliance specialist for the Pacific Regional Medical Command based at Tripler Medical Center in Honolulu, says his resolution is not to go crazy if a breach occurs that involves something he has warned staff about time and time again.

Editor's note: This was adapted from a January 2012 article in the HCPro, Inc. 12-page newsletter, Briefings on HIPAA.
