The draft accounting of disclosures rule calls for increased use of audit logs and requires that those logs track certain types of information related to PHI access. This would include sending an e-mail to, say, another physician practice related to patient treatment and that e-mail is made a part of the electronic designated record set. Protected Trust's tool includes functionality to support real-time tracking of secure data transmitted and maintenance of an audit log (e.g., who the document was sent to, what security controls were applied to the document, when the document was reviewed, and so forth).
