When Raj Chaudhary, MS, PE, CGEIT, goes into hospitals, he typically finds five HIPAA privacy and security compliance gaps. It is amazing how shocked the chief medical officer typically is to learn of these problems in his or her facility, says Chaudhary, partner and leader of the security and privacy practice at Crowe Horwath, LLP, in Chicago. These gaps could be the cause of a major security breach, and hospitals should pay close attention to them, he says.
