CDI Journal is a quarterly publication featuring in-depth articles regarding current developments within the documentation improvement profession. It is published January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1, and is available to ACDIS members online. As a reminder, the CDI Journal is an online-only publication available under the Quarterly Newsletter tab on the ACDIS web site. ACDIS members have complete access to the entire CDI Journal archives there.
The third quarter edition of the CDI Journal was published Friday, July 1. This edition includes:
- CMS proposes IPPS changes for 2012
- Director's note: Advisory board qualifications and expectations revamped, new elections process developed
- LTACs explore CDI opportunities for the long term
- CDI staff help LTAC clinical team tell the patient care story
- Ask ACDIS: Coding Clinic clarifies SIRS query questions
- Value-based purchasing presents new CDI opportunities
- CDI efforts in the ED need not be traumatic
- Suggested ACDIS ICD-10 implementation timeline
Querying physicians for conditions related to SIRS and sepsis remains a topic of contention for coders and CDI specialists. Not only is the subject discussed in a special Q&A in the most recent edition of the Journal but it is also the topic of an upcoming audio conference slated for July 22, titled Is it Really Sepsis? Reconcile Clinical and Coding Criteria. ACDIS members receive 20% the cost of this audio.
