CMS published the 2012 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed rule May 5 in the Federal Register. Proposals include changes to MS-DRGs for excisional debridement, a new hospital-acquired condition, and further clarification of the three-day payment window, along with a year-over-year reduction of 0.5% in payments to acute care hospitals. The reduction includes a documentation and coding adjustment of -3.15%.
ACDIS provided formal comments to the CDC regarding proposed changes to the ICD-9 codes regarding malnutrition, acute kidney disease, postoperative respiratory failure, and others. (Read the formal comments online.) The ACDIS advisory board is preparing a comment to CMS on the IPPS rule and encourages members to submit their own commentary.
CMS will accept comments on the IPPS proposed rule until June 20.
